I laughed out loud the first time I heard this, because it didn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. It still doesn’t, but I like it anyway.

It’s hard to think of what would be played at an event that will never happen. The chance of my going water skiing on Mars is much higher than the likelihood of getting hitched.

But if the impossible happened, this is the first dance.

Then after that we move on to the polkas, because it’s against the law for a SOG (South Omaha Girl) to get married without at least one polka at the reception.

A song that’s not too sad, and doesn’t wallow in self-pity as much as other songs I could have chosen. It’s more a song to listen to when you’re working your way to snapping out of it, I suppose.

Another difficult one for me. Anger and I do not get along. When people are angry at me, I feel depressed and tearful and withdraw. When I get angry, I feel the same, plus the added fun of feeling ready to throw up. The main difference is when I was a child, I denied feeling angry because “it was a sin.” Now, I go ahead and feel it, but wish I didn’t.

I don’t have a particular song I listen to when I’m angry. I just take whatever comes up on shuffle, only a lot louder. If I set out to have songs for anger, they’d probably include drum solos. So here’s 4 and a half minutes of drums and anger management with the late Buddy Rich (who supposedly had some anger management problems himself).

I’ve had a lot of favorite albums, off and on. Paul Simon’s Graceland is still one of my favorites. Here’s a song that doesn’t get heard quite as often as others on that album.

Now, this was one of my favorites when I started junior high school a million years ago: Chicago’s first album, back when they were Chicago Transit Authority and they were still a rocking jazz-influenced band instead of a purveyor of sappy love songs.

Yeah, I’m old. So?

30-day music meme day 18: a song you wish you heard on the radio

This is the question that makes me even more aware than usual how unhip/unaware/out of touch I am when it comes to music these days. When I hung out at the Antiquarium, I knew a lot of people who listened to stuff that would never, ever get played on local radio, even now.

And it’s not just Omaha radio that’s like that, of course. The song I heard most often in London when I went there a couple of years ago was Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl and I Liked It.” Make of that what you will.

But you know, maybe we need a nice cheerful song to be heard on the radio more often… like this one:

This was hard. The only time I listen to local radio anymore is when I’m driving, and usually I listen to classic rock in the car–so EVERYTHING is heard on the radio a lot. If you live, or used to live in Omaha, you already know the state of local radio, so I don’t need to go on about it much.

Anyway, this gets heard quite a bit in the car. I blame CSI.

I don’t really hate this song. I just got tired of it after hearing it used in endless commercials and movies for awhile. But I can’t really think of a song that I dislike now that wasn’t disliked before, so this will do.
