Lil Mouse is our host this week. She wants to know what our least favorite chores are.
Well, duh! All of them! :p
My problem is this: when I do something, I like for it to stay done. That doesn’t happen with housekeeping. Wash dishes one day, they’re dirty again the next. Dust yesterday, and today as much dust or more returns to haunt you. Garbage out–even more garbage in. And as hard as I try, the laundry simply won’t do itself.
Any satisfaction I get from a job well-done–or even just done–is bittersweet. I don’t feel I can enjoy the fruit of my labors when I have to redo it all endlessly.
Of course, there are worse fates…

Most of you who play Fun Monday know my friend Wendy aka Wendishness. She’s dealing with health issues right now, but is starting to raise money for the Australian Leukaemia Foundation. How is she doing this, you ask? She plans to make the supreme sacrifice–shaving her head if she raises $1000 AU. Her personal fundraising page is here –if you have a bit to spare for a good cause, she’d love it. Even if it does mean losing her lovely hair for awhile.
I haven’t told her yet I’m posting this. (shhh… lol)

Sayre of Sayre Smiles is in the driver’s seat this Fun Monday. She wants to know about our cars: What was your first car? Which was your favorite car? And what are you driving now – and why?
First of all, I didn’t start driving until I was in my 30s. The bus service was good, and as long as I knew the schedules, I could get wherever I was going on time. Then I started working at a job on the other side of town. I needed to be outside and ready to catch the bus at 5:15 a.m. in order to get to work by 7:30. If I drove, it would take me less than 20 minutes. I took lessons and bought my first car, a 1985 Ford Tempo. Blue, very pretty. But also very troublesome after the first year. The power steering constantly leaked. The alternator belt broke at least once a month for awhile. Worse, it started stalling.
The Tempo got traded in for a white Geo Metro 2-door hatchback, about a year old at the time. I loved that car. I couldn’t drive in the city with the air conditioning on because it would overheat, and it was pretty no-frills, but I had no more trouble than average. I had that car for five years, until some idiot ran a stop sign and totalled it. It was a warm summer day, and there were a lot of witnesses who saw it was the other guy’s fault. I was pretty out of it and wasn’t sure what happened, but I recovered.
This brings me to the car I still own, the only one I purchased brand-new–my 1997 Ford Aspire. Two doors, bright red hatchback. Even after more than 12 years, it still gets great gas mileage, runs more often than not, and repairs still cost less than monthly payments. Even though my last major repair cost almost–never mind. Someday I’ll have to look for another car, I suppose, but not yet. When it starts leaving a trail of gears and belts behind as I drive, maybe.

What’s another five or so inches of snow when there’s already 15 on the ground? This is the third major snowstorm we’ve had in as many weeks. This is getting really, really old. Just sayin’.

Mariposa hosts today’s Fun Monday. She asks what it is we are looking forward to this year.
I’m glad she didn’t ask about resolutions, as I have none. Thing is… I have no real plans yet. Unlike other years when I had a vacation to plan or a goal to meet, I’m really not expecting to do much except live my life. Weird, in a way, yet liberating. I’m free to go with the flow.
I’m hoping for a decent tax refund, which may make going with the flow a bit easier. And even though I have no plans, I would love another nice vacation–a return to London or California? A short stay in New York City?
But then, what about redecoration? A new bed? Or maybe this will be the year I write my book, even though I don’t know what I could write at the moment. Or… or…
The year is so full of possibilities, how can I choose already?

Gattina of Writer Cramps hosts Fun Monday today. She asks:
Just take a picture of one Christmas ornament which you love the most, explain why, and if you don’t have any explanations it’s also OK. For those who haven’t celebrated Christmas, just take a picture of something else you love as decoration.
I don’t really have a single ornament–lots of things got lost in various moves, many of the best ornaments went to my sisters who have trees–but I love the decor Mom and I put up right outside our apartment.
We put them together little by little, from things we got at different times. The “snow” is actually a piece of a mattress pad that became worn out. The little sleigh was purchased at Tuesday Morning on clearance–we weren’t sure exactly how we were going to use it. The snowmen statuettes were from the dollar store, I think. And the two large lighted snowmen were a more recent addition, either from QVC or Cracker Barrel.
Put them together, and they’re a bit cute, a bit cheesy, but it became special because it was something we put together in order to have a bit of tradition of our own. Our apartment is small, inside and out, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun with our decor!
Now go visit Writer Cramps and see who else is playing.

Have no choice, really, as this is day 2 of a three-day blizzard. But on Christmas day there’s nowhere to go, and nowhere else I’d rather be. Happy holidays to all my friends, old and new. Love and light to all.

since it’s just five days before Christmas, I thought it would be fun to share some of your holiday “snail” mail. Now I realize that a lot of people don’t get into writing and mailing out holiday greetings, especially since we can be in contact with friends and family 24/7 through technology–phone calls, texting, twittering, facebooking, blogging, e-mailing, videoing. But, for most of us it’s still a treat to see a holiday envelope mixed in with the bills and junk mail in the mailbox, especially if it’s a handwritten message.
So far, I have received one Christmas card. As stated above, most of my contact is done online these days. What I do get are last-minute pushes to give to charity in one way or another. All good causes, but it’s a bit overwhelming when they all come at once! Also two copies of my new health insurance cards, a bill for lab tests, reminders that After-Christmas sales start Saturday, and sales pitches for the new health and fitness club down the street.
Merry whatever-it-is-you’re having, Happy Christmas, and go visit Faye and see who else is playing (and may you all have better snail-mail than I do).
